Take Charge Carry With Confidence

CZ P07 vs Glock 19

Many would consider the CZ P07 and the Glock 19 to be very different guns since the Glock 19 is a striker-fired handgun while the CZ P07 is a double-action single-action. Personally, I think comparing the CZ P07 vs Glock 19 is a great comparison since the CZ P07 is what I would consider the DA/SA equivalent of the Glock 19.

The CZ P07 is affordable, larger enough for duty use, and small enough for most people to conceal as a carry gun and is quite popular in the DA/SA market. For a long time, I’ve said the CZ P07 is the DA/SA Glock 19.

Now one thing to take into consideration is there are currently 3 generations of Glocks being produced for the civilian population and each generation has its own set of pros and cons. We’ll be covering all those as well when comparing them to the CZ P07.

CZ P07 vs Glock 19 Concealed Carry

Right off the bat, you’ll see that there are close to 4 ounces of weight savings on the Glock 19 vs CZ P07 Duty.

4 ounces doesn’t sound like a lot but it is a quarter-pound and it does make a difference when carrying a gun all day 360 days a year. If you plan to ever carry the gun in your sweat pants or shorts without a belt this weight makes a huge difference.

I don’t suggest carrying without a belt but with a holster like our singleton, it is possible with a light enough gun. With a good solid belt like the Mean Gene Leather Shooters belt, the extra weight doesn’t make as much of a difference.

Ergonomics overall

Frame

The frame modularity of the Glock depends on the generation of the Glock you’re comparing.

Gen 3 Glock 19s have a very large grip with finger grooves with no modularity while the grips on the Gen 4 and Gen 5 Glock 19s are much smaller but have back straps that you can add and remove to increase the size of the grip.

There are no finger grooves on the Gen 5 biggest difference between the Gen 4 and Gen 5 systems. On the CZ there are 3 sizes of interchangeable backstraps that are held in place by a roll pin at the bottom of the grip.

The Glock backstraps change the length of the trigger reach which is a major advantage for larger hand individuals.

Changing the backstraps on the CZ adjusts the hump as the back of the grip but it doesn’t affect the trigger reach.

This is a disadvantage over the Glock 19 is you can’t adjust the trigger reach. When comparing the CZ P07 vs Glock 19 feel in the hand the CZ will feel better for most people. That said the Glock 19 2×4 ergonomics are really good all allowing you to control the gun. The CZ P07 slips in the hand a lot more due to the contours and shape of the slide.

Texture

Again all the generations of Glocks are a bit different.

The Gen 3 standard texturing is slick while the RTF2 texturing also offered on some Gen 3 guns is incredibly aggressive. Gen 5 is what I would call perfectly aggressive. It has a good bite but it’s not enough to chafe your bare skin when carrying concealed and the Gen 4 is between the standard Gen 3 and Gen 5 texturing.

On the other hand the CZ is slick. Comparing the Glock 19 vs CZ P07 the frame texture is nearly identical but the Glock’s blocky uncomfortable ergonomics give you more to grab onto making it easier to get control of the gun.

Slide

The serrations themselves are much better on the CZ P07 Duty vs Glock 19 but that doesn’t mean they work better. CZ’s are known for their internal frame rails that make the exposed height of the slide shorter than traditional pistol slides. So it’s hard to grab unless you have smaller hands.

CZ P07

With the glock the slide is large enough but you won’t have a hard time finding a enough area to grip but the serrations themselves aren’t that aggressive. Overall the glock is going to work better for most people but if you have smaller hands the P07 might be better.

Sights

Glocks used to just ship with horrible plastic sights but they now ship with a variety of sights.

The most common are the Glock Plastic sights, Glock night sights made by Meprolight, and Ameriglo sights. Ameriglo sights are absolutely awesome and even the Glock night sights are better than the CZ P07 and CZ P07 Duty options.

CZ P07 guns are offered with steel 3 dot sights or 3 dot night sights. If you’re comparing either of these options to the glock plastic sights they’re better but they aren’t better than the glock and Ameriglo night sights offerings. The night sight picture is much crisper on the Glock 19 vs CZ P07 night sights.

Shoot Better With Mini Red Dots

You can also get the Glock in an optics ready MOS variant that allows you to mount a red dot to the slide while you have to get the CZ P07 milled by a custom shop to mount a dot. This is another win for the glock. That said you might spend more milling a glock if you get custom serrations while the serrations on the CZ are pretty good already.

So you’ll want to price out both options before you decide what’s best for you.

Aftermarket

There is no doubt there are more aftermarket sight options for the Glock 19 than any other gun in existence. If you can’t find a sight option you like for a glock 19 then it likely does not exist.

CZ P07

You can find an acceptable number of options for the CZ P07 but you’re limited to Dawson Precision, Night Fision, Truglo and CZ Custom Shop. There might be a few I’m forgetting but not a lot.

Controls

Safety

Glock is notorious for not having an external safety(most don’t count the trigger safety) but the CZ P07 does have the option for a thumb safety. The CZ P07 uses CZ’s Omega trigger system that gives you the option to install either a decocker or a safety.

Both are easy to reach and give you multiple options on how you could carry the gun.

If you’re a fan of the DA/SA trigger system you can use the decocker or you could manually decock the hammer or and run it with the thumb safety. You can also use the P07 cocked and locked in single action. So the CZ Wins on options over the glock but the glock wins simplicity. It just depends on what you’re looking for.

Trigger

So we’ve already covered the options for the CZ P07 trigger and we’ll cover the differences in the trigger on the multiple current production Glock generations as well. At the end of the day, it depends on if you want a DA/SA hammer-fired trigger or a striker-fired trigger.

CZ P07 Trigger

There is a lightly curved CZ P07 trigger that a lot of people seem to really like.

The DA trigger is fairly light but there is definitely some creep in it. The reset on the trigger is light with no force behind it and it resets fairly far forward. From the reset, there is a lot of take-up. But the single-action trigger is light and has a nice clean rolling break. In single action, the trigger is really a good trigger considering the price point of the gun.

Glock Triggers

Gen 3 Trigger

If you like a hard heavy wall you’ll love this trigger but if you don’t then it probably isn’t for you.

G19 Gen 5 Trigger

In my opinion it’s one of if not the best striker fired trigger available. It’s heavy enough to feel safe but it has a nice rolling break. I know a lot of people that always ran modified glock triggers who started leaving their guns stock when they got the Gen 5.

Gen 4 Trigger

This trigger is right between the Gen 3 and Gen 5 triggers. It doesn’t have a hard wall or a definite rolling break.

Glock triggers also have more aftermarket parts available than any other trigger so you can spend from $15 to hundreds of dollars modifying the trigger and making it what you want.

Slide Lock

The CZ P07 slide can only be dropped by the slide stop using the support hand thumb after inserting a magazine. On the CZ the slide stop is on the left-hand side only and sits too far forward more most people to reach with their primary thumb.

Glock Slide stops on Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glock 19s are also on the left-hand side only but they’re much further back and easy for people to reach with their primary thumb.

The Gen 5 guns are ambi so the Glock wins in this category but realistically I don’t think the slide stop is a very important feature for most buyers when comparing the CZ P07 vs Glock 19.

Magazine Release

The reach and function on these is nearly identical but the CZ P07 is just slightly easier to reach and the metal mags drop free easier. Both the Glock Gen 4 & 5 and CZ have reversible magazine releases if you’re left handed. The Glock 19 Gen 3 does not so the CZ has a clear win there.

Quality

Both of these guns are quality offerings without a doubt. I think the quality of workmanship on the slide seems better on the CZ but the Glock frames seem to have nicer polymer so I’d say it’s a tie.

Aftermarket

There is no doubt there is a 100 fold aftermarket for the Glock 19 vs CZ P07 Duty and P07. It’s not even close but if you don’t plan to modify your gun with a lot of aftermarket parts it’s irrelevant. If you are looking for gun cases for the 19 or P07 be sure to check out gun case review HQ.

Aesthetics

The much better gun is the CZ P07 vs Glock 19 which is very blocky. At the end of the day it’s personal preference but the CZ is symmetric and has nice touches like the slide chamfers, forward serrations and frame finger index texturing.

Shooting

I’ve found the glock shoots flatter than the CZ P07 but it’s also a little more violent. So it’s not fair to say the better shooter is the CZ P07 vs Glock 19. I think newer shooters might find the CZ P07 recoil impulse easier to handle while more experienced shooters will be able to shoot the Glock 19 a little faster due to the more violent but flatter action.

The opposite argument could be made for the CZ P07 DA tigger and newer shooters so a one size fits all answer isn’t going to work.

Price/Value

Glocks range from $599 to $720 MSRP depending on options and street price is usually $100 less than MSRP. The CZ is MSRP is $510-$559 and the street price starts around $450.

If you’re buying the lowest end guns and leaving them stock the CZ P07 is a better value than the Glock 19. The CZ P07 3 dot sights aren’t great but their leaps and bounds better than the Glock 19 plastic sights.

That said the magazines for the CZ P07 are also around $40 while Glock OEM magazines are $20-$25 and you can buy Magpul Pmags for the range for $15. If you buy a lot of magazines for your guns then this difference can quickly close the price gap.

Adding better sights to a CZ P07 quickly made it similar in price to the Glock 19 with a comparable set of sights from the factory.

How many magazines you plan to buy and what aftermarket additions are going to determine what is the better value for you.

  1. Love G19’s, need another one

  2. MLeake says:

    I have both.

The G19 is more practical, due to aftermarket support, ease of maintenance, etc.

The CZ has more of a cool factor.

    I usually carry the G19.

I have owned Gens 2,3,4, and 5. Of those, I prefer the Gen 5.

  3. J. Crouch says:

Very insightful comparison. I was sold on the G19 but I would consider the CZ. The test for me would be in the hand, I have a Glock so I’d have to see how the CZ handles.

  4. Probably the most comprehensive comparisons available. Thinking long term, the simplicity, aftermarket options and magazine costs allow Glock to take the day

  5. John Archer says:

I think the criticisms of the slide height on the CZ are subjective at best.
I have XXL hands and have zero issue manipulating the slide quickly and accurately.
I find it easier to operate the CZ quickly and more accurately than the Glock.
While my opinion is equally subjective, I think it needs to be said that no, you don’t need small hands to run the CZ. While the mag release is a bit farther forward, you are less likely to activate it than you are with the Glock. It should be noted that the CZ mag release does not take much effort.

  6. Clifford says:

I own a CZ and has shot multiple times with and and a Glock though for me CZ takes it for Me❤️

  7. Ernest Wessels says:

Own a CZ PO 7.I don’t trust the “plastic” frame.

    1. Taylor L says:

The frame does seem questionable. I’m afraid to do an undercut on mine cause I feel like it would compromise the structural integrity significantly. I’ve never had one second thought on doing a double or single undercut on the several Glocks I’ve owned.

  8. Armando Robledo says:

I own both, would take my CZ over my Glock any day.

  9. Wes says:

    I’m thinking cz! Good comparison!

  10. Thomas says:

I love my cz po7 more accurate than a glock for me
