CZ P09 Left

CZ P09 Holster

On an OWB CZ P09 Holster, a great option to have is a Turbo Prop. The Turbo Prop allows you to fine-tune the retention on your CZ P09 holster without tools. So while you’re standing in the USPSA start box getting ready to run the stage you can loosen the retention on your holster to optimize your draw stroke.

CZ P09 OWB Holster

If you’re setting up your CZ P09 holster for a UPSA competition you’ll be best served with something like the Turbo Drop or Boss hanger for a rigid connection between your stiff competition belt and your CZ P09 holster. The Boss Hanger and the Turbo Drop also allow you to adjust the cant on your CZ P09 holster to optimize your draw stroke.

Contender CZ P09Most people use the CZ P09 in applications that dictate an OWB(outside the waistband) holsters like our Contender holster. While the CZ P09 can definitely be run in a competition like USPSA Production or Carry Optics it’s more likely you’ll be running the gun in a more tactical competition like 2 gun. If you are running a competition like 2 gun you probably won’t want to run your holster on a competition style belt but instead a battle belt or heavy gun belt style setup.

CZ P09 Competition Holster

For something like a 2 gun competition or just shooting on the range using an X Lock or Tek Lok to attach your CZ P09 Holster to your belt. Another great option for these uses is to mount a Safariland QLS(Quick Locking System) to your CZ P09, OWB Holster. The QLS is a fork system that has a male fork and a female holder. The female portion is mounted to a belt mount and the male fork is mounted to the CZ P09 holster. You can remove and replace the holster in seconds using the Safariland QLS system.

If you’re looking for an OWB holster you can quickly put on in the middle of the night if you need to use your gun for home defense then you may consider adding a paddle to your CZ P09 holster. A paddle holster is also a great option if you’re looking for an OWB holster set up to use with your CZ P09 at the range.

The CZ P09 is a very large gun so I would only suggest carrying it in an IWB holster if you’re either very large or extremely dedicated. If you’re carrying AIWB you want to make sure your CZ P09 IWB holster is well rounded below the trigger guard to avoid discomfort. A must for carrying AIWB with a CZ P09 holster is a wing attached to the holster. The holster wing will help tuck the long CZ P09 grip into your body.

Concealment

Despite its large size, you can conceal a CZ P-09, as long as you make sure you have the right holster and it’s properly accessorized. You can carry a CZ P-09 OWB or IWB for concealment. IWB is going to be more concealable for most people, but there are always exceptions to that rule. We’re going to explain how you can carry the CZ P-09 concealed, both IWB and OWB.

Strongside

When you’re carrying strong side, the biggest feature you’re going to want to make sure your holster has is adjustable cant. That offers you between seven and a half and 30 degrees of cant adjustment. So a holster with zero to 30 degrees cant adjustment will work quite well. With a grip the size of the CZ P-09, the more you cant the holster, the more concealable it’s going to be and the closer it’s going to sit to your body. The downside of that is it might change your draw stroke slightly. Unless you’re a very large individual, you’ll probably have to compromise either draw stroke or concealment. Unfortunately, there is no way to get around that.

Wedge

A wedge is a really good accessory to add when you’re carrying at the appendix. Essentially the holster is sitting in a pocket next to the inner thigh and unless that pocket is fully filled, you’re going to get undue pressure in a couple of areas and that will create hotspots. Hotspots mean discomfort. So you want to avoid that at all costs. By filling up all the areas with a wedge that sits between the CZ P09 Holster and the body itself, you’re going to make the holster more comfortable. There’s also another advantage to adding a wedge.

A wedge kicks the muzzle out away from the body, pushing the top of the grip in closer to your stomach. The reason that is important is because most of the weight of the gun, when you’re carrying appendix, is sitting above the beltLine. You have a lot of weight in that 19-round magazine, as well as roughly half the weight of the slide. Due to this, you’re going to need a wedge to keep that gun in close. It will make your carry experience much more positive.

OWB

OWB concealment holsters are a lot different from a competition or tactical style holster. As with an IWB strong side concealment rig, cant plays a very important role. You’re going to want a CZ P09 Holster that has between seven and a half and 30 degrees of cant for a gun the size of the CZ P-09. Adjustable cant holsters are not that common in this format.

You also want a holster that’s going to hug very tight to the body, because the closer the gun sits to the body, the more concealable it’s going to be. We are currently working on a holster that will suit these needs, but it’s going to be a while till we come out with it. So you can sign up for our email list below to get notifications.
