There are multiple reasons for buying a Canik TP9SF Holster. Are you buying the holster for concealed carry or to shoot in a competition. The answer will determine what product is best suited for you.

IWB Holster

If you’re looking for an IWB holster choosing the right holster will depend on carry position. These days a lot of good holsters will make a good base for both AIWB and hip carry. The key is making sure they have the right features like our Singleton holster.

Features to look for include adjustable ride height, adjustable cant, and most importantly a shell devoid of sharp edges. A holster shell devoid of sharp edges will always be more comfortable to carry.

Appendix Holster

A nice feature to have for AIWB carry is adjustable ride height. This allows you to tailor the ride height to your body. This is a key feature on our singleton holster. When carrying appendix if you have a well-rounded holster like the Singleton it becomes all about the accessories which go a long way in increasing concealment.

Claw/Wing

A claw or wing is a device that uses the tension from your belt to rotate the grip of your TP9SF into your body aiding concealment. This is a must for 98% of body types when concealing at the appendix.

Wedge

You place the wedge on the bottom half of the holster between the holster and your body. It helps push the muzzle away from the body while pushing the top of the gun closer to the body. It’s a great addition to any Kydex holster. It can even make the holster more comfortable in some cases. If you have issues with hot spots I’d definitely give it a try.

Behind the Hip Carry

For behind the hip carry a holster with adjustable cant from 15-30 degrees is pivotal. This is a hard area to conceal the gun for many people. So having the ability to optimize the cant of the grip to match you body is key.

Concealment

You want a holster that is thin and low file and will hug your body tight. The TP9SF Elite isn’t a thin gun so getting it as close to the body as possible is a must! Another feature to look for is adjustable cant. Most OWB Concealment holsters have fixed 15 degrees or 0-degree cant. In reality, adjustment is better and you’ll likely need 15-30 degrees of adjustment. Adjustment allows you to tailor the cant to your body type and clothing.

Range/Competition

Our Contender is a great holster for shooting competitions with the Canik TP9SF. It features a versatile mounting pattern that allows the holster to work with multiple mounts. You also have the ability to add a turboprop. The Turboprop allows you to adjust retention on the fly without tools.

Features

There are a couple of features you want to make sure you’re looking for on a competition or range holster.

Adjustable retention

Retention is a very personal preference and there are a lot of myths about it in the holster world. Retention is going to depend on the task you’re using the holster for. If you’re competing in USPSA the requirements are much different from someone riding trails on an ATV. So it’s very important to have a holster that has a reasonable range of adjustment so you can set the holster to your needs at that time.

Flared Mouth

A flared mount isn’t 100% necessary but it’s a nice feature to have. For competition a quick re-holster it’s a requirement and it’s forbidden in most competitions for safety reasons. For tactical use, many consider it an asset if you have to transition to another task quickly. A flared mouth when executed correctly doesn’t hinder the functionality of the holster but it can improve it.

Optics Cut

The future is here and we are living it when it comes to slide mounted optics. It’s a good idea to have a holster that’ll work with slide mounted optics. Canik has multiple TP9SF guns that either come with a slide mounted optic or are milled to accept multiple optics. Even if your gun doesn’t have that capability it might be one you want to add in the future so it’s always nice to have that option in your holster.

Mounts

There are multiple mounting options for our tactical and competition-style holsters. Unfortunately, the is no perfect mount for all missions but there are multiple mounts that’ll work well for your Canik TP9SF OWB Holster.

Paddle

A paddle is a great choice for the customer that wants a holster that is easy to get on and off. The paddle we use is very secure but it’s still not as secure as a fixed mounting system. If you find yourself shooting multiple guns at the range or need something you can grab and put on quickly then this is what we suggest. My buddy has a home range and often checks his land on his 4 wheeler. This is his prefered mount as it’s easy to take on and off when going to check game cameras or crack off a few rounds at the range.

X Lock

This is probably the best all-around mounting system. If you’re unsure of what to get this is the jack of all trades. It adjusts to different belt sizes in 0.25-inch increments making it very versatile. It’s great for tactical and range applications. If you have a thick and stiff 1.5-inch carry belt it works well and can also work on 1.75 or 2-inch duty and tactical style belts. This is my favorite all-around setup.

Turbo Drop

The Turbo Drop is an aluminum hanger that is an improvement of the popular Boss Hanger. This is a competition-oriented product design specially for 1.5-inch competition belts. You literally have to use a screwdriver to get this on and off your belt. For the casual user, this isn’t the best option but for someone that wants a stiff competition setup for their Canik TP9SF Elite OWB Holster, this is it. If you’re wondering if this product is for you then it likely isn’t. This is a very specific product for competitors who know exactly what they need.
